Day 1: Goddess Shailputri Mata

Maa Shailputri is considered to be the first form of Maa Durga or Mata Parvati and is worshiped on the 1st day of Navratri. This form represents the childhood stage of Mata Parvati that’s why she is worshiped on the 1st Navratri. She is the daughter of Parvat Raj, Lord Himavan, and Queen Menavati. That’s why she got this name.

Meaning of Name: The meaning of her name is “Putri” – The Daughter of “Shail” – The Mountain. She is a Virgo avatar who makes her family, and her parents happy, joyful, and proud of her.

According to old scriptures like Shiva Purana and Devi-Bhagavatam Purana, Mata Parvati was born as the daughter of King Daksha in her previous life. And after renouncing herself as Sati, she took the birth of Mother Parvati. Just like in her previous birth, Maa Shailputri married Lord Shiva in this birth as well.

Goddess Shailputri (Parvati) is depicted with two hands and has a crescent moon on her forehead. He holds a trident in her right hand and a lotus flower in her left hand. She is riding on a bull his name is Nandi.
